Objectives The students shall acquire base knowledge skills in research (philosophy of science, science studies, science ethics) pertaining to their dissertations.
Subject This course focuses on the fundamentals of research (philosophy of science, science studies, science ethics) which are presented and discussed in reference to case studies. Topics include: What is scientific knowledge? Basics of theory testing; the validity of empirical designs; scientific integrity versus scientific misconduct; qualitative and quantitative evaluation of scientific research (peer review, impact factors); development and functions of the scientific publishing system; the social and public character of scientific methods; the art of scientific and academic writing.
