Detailed information
Original study plan Master's programme Polymer Technologies and Science (PTS) 2015W
Objectives The core compulsory subject "Polymer Processing" concerns operations carried out on various types of polymeric materials or systems to increase their utility and provides competences in the fields of discontinuous and continuous polymer processing technologies on an advanced level with a special focus on polymer injection molding, polymer extrusion and compounding. Included are aspects of process optimization, screw and tool design, utilizing concepts of transport phenomena, heat and mass transport, fluid mechanics, polymer rheology and processing induced material structure formation along with proper tools of process modelling and simulation. Furthermore, attention is given to productivity enhancement via proper technologies of process automation combined with advanced process control and quality assurance techniques.
Subject The core compulsory subject "Polymer Processing" contains three sub-groups of courses. The first sub-group focuses on polymer injection molding and contains the following courses:

- Polymer Injection Moulding 1: Machine Engineering (lecture)
- Polymer Injection Moulding 2: Process Technologies (lecture)

The second sub-group focuses on polymer extrusion and compounding and contains the following courses:

- Polymer Extrusion and Compounding 1: Process Technologies (lecture & exercise)
- Polymer Extrusion and Compounding 2: Modelling Screw Extrusion (lecture & exercise)

The third sub-group covers advanced polymer processing technologies in general and includes the following laboratory course:

- Polymer Processing (laboratory course)
