Detailed information
Pre-requisites (*)PR Praktikum aus Allgemeiner Chemie & PR Praktikum aus präparativer Organischer Chemie I & KV Vertiefende Grundlagen der präparativen Organischen Chemie
Original study plan Bachelor's programme Technical Chemistry 2016W
Objectives The students learn independent preparation and execution of multi-step organic syntheses including literature search and use, laboratory safety and required analytical and separation techniques. The students get to know the fundamental computational methods relevant for organic chemistry.
Subject Several assignments to synthesize substances from the existing chemical literature are executed in cooperation with researchers. Tasks include literature searches, implementing procedures, setting up of lab equipment, controlling the reactions, purifying the products and spectroscopic analysis. Computational chemistry methods are used to predict structures and spectroscopic properties.
Criteria for evaluation Performance in the practical execution (purity and yield), compliance with safety rules, knowledge of scientific and technical background to the specific tasks, adequate reporting (lab protocols)
Methods Chemistry laboratory work with individualized instructions. Literature search using the library and electronic resources (e.g.: SciFInder).
