Objectives
Introduction to the fundamentals of General Chemistry and preparation for the lab course. The passing of the final test is a mandatory requirement for the lab course.
Subject
1h: What’s Chemistry?; basic terms; classification of matter; state of matter. 2h: basic terms of separation techniques; base units; ideal gas law; real gases. 3h: Liquids and solids; intermolecular interactions; electronegativity and polarity of bonds; dipole moment; van-der-Waals interactions, hydrogen bonds. 4h: Anomalies of water; phase diagrams; melting diagrams and crystallisation; 5h: Solutions and miscibility; dissolution processes; Rauolt’s Law and vapour pressure; boiling-point elevation and freezing-point depression; osmotic pressure; temperature-composition diagram; 6h: Excursus: Lewis-structures; fundamentals of chemical thermodynamics; laws of thermodynamic; Gibbs-Helmholtz-equation; reaction enthalpy and entropy.
