Detailed information
Original study plan Master's programme Biophysics 2012W
Objectives Profound insight into the basic molecular processes of living cells
Subject Evolution of the biosphere. Basic chemical constitutents and processes of cells. Protein structure and function. DNA und chromosom structure. DNA replication. DNA repair. DNA recombination. Transcription (= RNA synthesis). Translation (= protein synthesis). Cell division cycle. Signaling mechanisms in cells.
Criteria for evaluation Each of the 7 written test comprises 3 exam questions. The answer for each question is evaluated with up to 10 points. For a positive grade (4), at least 50% of the points must be reached. The ranges for the other grades (1, 2, and 3) have approximately the same width.
Methods In this "exercise course", the contents of the lecture is recapitulated, discussed, and examined in a written test after each chapter
Language  English
Changing subject? No
Further information The exam questions can be answered in English or in German (as preferred by the student).
The handouts show all figures with English subtitles but the running text is in German.
The chapters closely adhere to the english-speaking students can give the exam answers in English. If they have problems with the German handouts, then they can use the original text book "Molecular Biology of the Cell" by Bruce Alberts et al. as source for learning and compare with the German handouts to see what has been emphasized.
