Ziele (*)Students will develop their understanding of main preconditions in social research design, social research process, skills of data collection and knowledge in alternative methods of data analysis. The knowledge and skills acquired during the course will be needed when attending other methodological courses and when planning a thesis.
Lehrinhalte (*)The literature examination aims to give students the opportunity to acquire insight into methodological discourse in social research, including the main ideas and methods of quantitative and qualitative research.

The course literature examination covers the following areas:

  1. Essence and differences of quantitative and qualitative approaches to social research.
  2. The main elements of social research process.
  3. The main methods of data collection.
  4. Ethics in social and comparative research.
  5. Assessment of research quality.

As an outcome students will have methodological skills needed in her/his master’s thesis writing.

Beurteilungskriterien (*)100% book examination. Written exam (composed of open-ended questions).
Lehrmethoden (*)No lectures. Moderated self study of indicated literature according to the list of course topics and questions provided by the instructor. All materials needed for examination of literature are provided in the Moodle environment of the subject.
