Objectives Students will learn the most important basic skills in molecular biology. This lecture serves as preparation for Molecular Biology II.

  • Biological membranes
  • Forensic DNA Analysis
  • Details of the Na+ K+ pump system in human cells
  • Digitalis and other blockers of the Na+ K+ pump
  • Transepithelial glucose transport in the human gut
  • Ca++ ATPase in human cells
  • Proton transport mechanisms in human cells
  • ABC Transporter
  • Ion channels – K+ channel dependent Insulin secretion
  • Selection of intracellular signaling cascade mechanisms
  • (EGF, PLCγ, Ras, JAK STAT, Integrin)
