Objectives This course is designed to help students

  • analyse complex business information: discussion, drawing conclusions, working out solutions and recommendations in oral and written form
  • practice and improve the speaking skills necessary to function in business environments: reacting spontaneously and adequately to information presented, contributing and summarizing arguments, voicing criticism, presenting in formal and informal situations
  • practice and improve the writing skills necessary to function in business environments: structure, clear line of argumentation, logical sequence, register, cohesion and coherence
  • improve formal and informal presentation skills: focus on performance, free and spontaneous delivery, giving and receiving feedback
Subject
  • Analysing, drawing conclusions and working out recommendations for practical business cases
  • Preparing for the case study based final exam
  • Presenting and reacting critically
  • Language development through oral and text production
  • Development of critical thinking and decision-making skills
Criteria for evaluation
  • 100% attendance
  • Active participation (group activities, presentation feedback, challenging another student’s position)
  • Homework as assigned, typed and handed in on time (3 case analyses)
  • Book Review (meetings 4 and 5)
  • Final Presentation (5 min per person, meetings 6 and 7)
  • One in-class assessment (120 min, meeting 5)

The final grade is based on an equal evaluation of oral and written work. Both the oral and the written work must be positive in order to complete the course.
