Objectives |
The course aims to give an in depth understanding of business analysis and valuation.

Subject |
The ""Business analysis"" part of the course initially focuses on causes and objectives of business analysis and valuations. On this basis the basics of financial statement analysis, a central element of external business analysis, are being taught.
This includes the basic conception, the preparation of the necessary data material, the cash flow and financial statement analysis. In doing so the limits of analysis of annual statements and problems of international business analysis will be shown. Moreover the tensions between accounting poliy and financial statement analysis will be painted out.
The ""valuation"" part focuses on providing a conceptual base and possible methods of business valuation.
After the discussion of the relationships between valuation objectives and valuation causes and the derived theory of functional business valuation a number of different applicable methods are presented. The course focuses on the concepts decision-oriented valuation procedures as reflected in the discounted cash flow (DCF) approach. In addition, the basics of the most important single and asset value methods and the market-oriented valuation methods are discussed.
