Ziele (*)The objectives of the lecture series concern porous polymers that are used in a wide variety of technological application, e.g. separation science, extraction, catalysis, or as scaffolds for diverse technical and biomedical applications. The lecture series will consist of three major parts outlined below. This includes synthesis and formats of porous polymers (Part 1), characterization of porous polymer systems (Part 2), and applications of porous polymers as the final part of the lecture series (Part 3).
Lehrinhalte (*)Polymer Chemistry, Technical Chemistry

Part 1:
Synthesis and Formats

  • Polymers with inherent microporosity
  • Porous polymers from self-assembled structures
  • Macro-, meso-, and nanoporous polymers
  • Porogen incorporation and phase inversion
  • Colloidal templating
  • Beads, monoliths, thin layers

Part 2:
Characterization

  • Surface area and porosity
  • Microscopy characterization of porous polymer materials
  • Dry-state and solvated-state properties

Part 3:
Applications

  • Separation science (membranes, columnar format)
  • Polymer-supported reagents and catalysts
  • Biomedical devices
Beurteilungskriterien (*)Main criterion for evaluation is a written exam at the end of the lecture series.

Lehrmethoden (*)Primary method is the interactive lecturing block. Here, questions are allowed during the lecture. Optionally, a variety of presentations on contemporary topics and publications in this area will be given by the students and/or the lecturer.
