Detailed information
Original study plan Master's programme Biophysics 2014W
Objectives Insight into sophisticated bioanalytical strategies and methods
Subject Biospecific detection and biological interaction analysis

1) In solution (homogeneous assays) 1a) Biocatalysis (enzyme assays) 1b) Biospecific binding (e.g. between receptor and ligand)

2) On surfaces (heterogeneous assays) 2a) Biocatalytic sensors 2b) Affinity sensors 2c) Chip assays (nucleic acid, protein, peptide, etc.)

3) Biological interaction analysis (specificity) 4) Geometric analysis of biological interaction

Criteria for evaluation Written exam. The answers should make clear that the student has understood the rationales/principles of the methods and their applications. Bioanalytical techniques rest upon particular physico-chemical properties of biomolecules which are then exploited in the bioanalytical assay methods.
Methods Lecture and discussion
Language English
Study material Detailed handouts with a full continuous text and with sketches/images on all aspects of the lecture are available for the students of the course.
Changing subject? No
Further information The exam answers can be written in English or in German. The preferred examination method is a written test at the end of the course. However, the exam can also be taken any time during the year (except when the lecturer is on vacation). Just contact the lecturer about one week ahead of the desired date by email or phone or in person.
