Special competence in informatics is acquired by the selection of subjects from the offered courses of the master curriculum Computer Science to a minimum extent of altogether 12 ECTS by one or more of the following alternatives:
(a) By selecting 12, 18, or 24 ECTS from a single subject specified by the table below (except "Ausgewählte Themen der Informatik (Master)"). Thereof courses up to an extent of 6 ECTS can be chosen from the bachelor curriculum Informatik, as far as they constitute prerequisites for the selected courses.
(b) By selecting 6 or 12 ECTS from compulsory and elective courses of the master curriculum "Computer Science". Alternative (b) may only be chosen once and constitutes the subject "Ausgewählte Themen der Informatik (Master)".
(c) By a selection corresponding to the specification of a focus of study according to § 10a.
In case of lectures with accompanying exercise, both courses have to be taken.
Courses that overlap to a large extent concerning contents with compulsory subjects of Business Informatics are excluded from the choice. These are:

- KV Integrated Information Systems (3)
- KV Knowledge Based Systems (3)
- KV Learning from User-generated Data (4.5)
- KV Conceptual Data Modeling (3)
- KV Semantic Data Modeling and Applications (3)
- VL Ethics and Gender Studies (3)
The type of exam of the assigned subjects in the context of the master curriculum Business Informatics is an accumulative subject examination.
