Objectives
Economics values its self-concept of being value free, especially regarding ascriptive categories such as gender. However, its theories and empiric studies are steeped with either gender-blind or gender-specific implications. Gender Studies in Economics reflect upon these projections and develops alternatives. The course will give an overview over the research and the questions in this scientific discipline. The course will enable the students to analyse the interconnected areas of economics and gender.
Subject
The course gives an overview of the feminist discourse in economics in the last years and discusses central research questions and theories of Gender Studies and Economics.
Criteria for evaluation
The course is a literature seminar. Students actively analyse the texts (see KUSSS), reflect upon them, discuss them in the course and develop the topics. This should lead to a scientific paper, developing one of the discussed areas of research.
