Objectives This course introduces students to the basic concepts of lightweight design with composite materials, particularly with laminated fiber-reinforced polymers and provides a fundamental knowledge regarding the strength analysis of such materials.
Subject introduction to composite materials / fiber and matrix materials / micro-mechanical behavior of a lamina / macro-mechanical behavior of a lamina / macro-mechanical behavior and stiffness design of laminates / failure criteria and strength concepts / design of lightweight composite structures
Criteria for evaluation Written exam (working time 90 minutes)
Methods As lecture notes PowerPoint-slides are provided for download. Additional explanations and calculation examples are carried out at the black board.
