Detailed information
Original study plan Master's programme Computer Science 2013W
Objectives Using a concrete hardware assembly as an example, the design methods of digital integrated circuits and the interface between digital and analog world are explained.
Subject Within the scope of the course is the design of a Sigma-Delta digital-to-analog converter and its realization in a FPGA. An analog filter is attached to complete the DAC structure. This hardware chain, that is often applicable in audio devices, as example between the CD-Reader (digital) and the loudspeaker (analog), is being used to convey a detailed understanding of the design methods of digital integrated circuits and of the interface between digital and analog world.

Design Methods of digital integrated circuits, Hardware description language VHDL, Structure of FPGAs, FPGA-Synthesis, Principles of analog-to-digital / digital-to-analog converters (signals and systems, quantization, structure), Design of Sigma-Delta Modulators/DACs, Filter-Design (needed for designing the Sigma-Delta Modulator and the analog filter).
