Objectives (*)The aim of this course is to reinforce students’ competences in understanding the general principles and the application of tools in relation to research design and realization of a research project leading to the master‘s thesis.
The aim of the joint master’s degree program is to make students capable of doing research based on holistic thinking and working on their own. Furthermore it enables them to have initiative, show social competence and be ready to assume responsibility as well as to develop independent judgement and a critical mind. The basis for this is provided by cognitive and applied research. The research oriented, scientifically founded teaching provides the instrumental and methodological basis for a successful professional career and ensures a high degree of competence.

Subject (*)FIRST STEP: Guidance for choosing the topic, write a literature review and finalise the research plan

• students choose the topic of their thesis during the 2nd term

• each student presents an outline on the chosen topic in which he/she describes the ideas for the thesis; all papers are discussed together (defence) (3rd semester)

• later students write a review of literature that relates to their topic (review on literature) (3rd semester)

• at the end of the 3rd semester students present a more detailed research plan and start data collection and the writing of their master’s thesis (research plan) in the 4th semester.

SECOND STEP: Doing research and writing the master’s thesis

• During the 4th semesters students get supervision in data-analyses and the writing of the master’s thesis.

Criteria for evaluation (*)Active participation 30% & 70% papers: 1. Proposal and defense of research topic 2-4 pages; 2. Review on relevant literature 10 pages; 3. Research plan 15 pages
Methods (*)Introduction course at the beginning of the semester, than the use of methods of distance learning: discussion boards and individual tutoring, supported by Moodle.
