Skills |
Knowledge |
By attending this course, students will acquire the following skills. They will be able to
- understand and explain fundamental concepts and phenomena in biophysics (k1/k2);
- formulate and interpret biophysical and biochemical laws and theories in a precise and analytical manner (k3);
- apply the principles of biophysics and biochemistry to other advanced biological and biophysical problems (k3).
|
During the course, students will acquire knowledge in the following areas and concepts of biophysics:
- statistical thermodynamics;
- nucleotide, sugar, lipid, and protein structure;
- non-covalent interactions;
- calorimetric and microscopic methods;
- self-organization of membranes, lipid mobility;
- osmosis, Fick's laws of diffusion;
- diffusion in electric fields; electrokinetic phenomena; electrochemical double layers; transport processes;
- electrical potentials (resting and action potentials); electrical and chemical stimulus transmission.
