Competences
Students will be able to perform and understand fundamental analytical analysis experiments.
Skills Knowledge
More specifically, upon completion of the course, they will be able to:

  • Carry out titrations manually and with titrators (k2, k3, k4)
  • Quantify analytes using spectroscopy (k2, k3, k4)
  • Carry out chromatographic separations (k2, k3, k4)
  • Report their results in a protocol in a scientific writing style (k4, k5)
The course is divided into six consecutive sections with the following experiments:

  • Determination of quinine in beverages by fluorescence spectroscopy
  • Determination of active ingredients in pharmaceuticals using HPLC
  • Determination of calcium in waters by atomic absorption spectroscopy
  • Determination of vitamin C by redox titration
  • Quantitation of chloride by titration with silver nitrate using a potentiometric end point detection
  • Bradford Assay for determining protein content in aqueous solutions
