Kompetenzen
(*)Students will be able to formulate, analyze, and evaluate momentum, heat, and mass transport in process units by applying balance equations and transport laws, using non dimensional analysis and correlations to estimate transfer rates, pressure drops, and coupled transport effects.
Fertigkeiten Kenntnisse
(*)Upon completion, they will be able to: • Formulate mass, momentum, and energy balances for control volumes and continua (k2, k3, k4). • Apply constitutive transport laws and appropriate boundary/initial conditions (k2, k3, k4). • Use nondimensional analysis to characterize regimes and guide simplifications (k2, k3, k4). • Solve and interpret basic steady/unsteady transport problems analytically or with simple numerical tools (k3, k4). • Estimate transfer rates and pressure/temperature/concentration profiles and communicate assumptions and uncertainties (k3, k4, k5). (*)The lecture covers: • Conservation laws in continuum mechanics: mass, momentum, energy (integral and differential forms). • Transport laws and material behavior: viscosity, thermal conductivity, diffusion; coupling with sources/sinks. • Momentum transport: flow regimes, boundary layers, and pressure loss concepts. • Energy transport: conduction and convection; interactions with flow. • Mass transport: diffusion and convective transport; interactions with flow and heat transfer. • Coupled phenomena and scaling: interaction among momentum–heat–mass transfer and the role of dimensionless groups.
