Detailed information
Pre-requisites For safety reasons at least 25 ECTS verifiably from chemical practicals (laboratory courses with experimental activity of the student) or admission to the master curriculum Biological Chemistry ( positive completion of the "Organic chemistry laboratory bridge course " if this has been stipulated or is part of the curriculum variant) or admission to the master curriculum "Molecular Biology".
Original study plan Master's programme Biological Chemistry 2026W
Learning Outcomes
Competences
Successful completion of the practical course will provide a fundamental understanding of the measurement of molecular receptor-ligand interactions at the single-molecule level, with a focus on atomic force microscopy methods.
Skills Knowledge
By attending this course, students will acquire the following skills. They will be able to: • Read (k1) and understand biochemical coupling protocols, • Describe (k1) and understand (k2) the structure of atomic force microscopes, • Perform simple interaction measurements independently under supervision (k3) and evaluate and interpret the results (k4). During the course, students will gain knowledge in the following areas and concepts of biochemistry: • Linking chemistry for the production of single-molecule layers. • Atomic force microscopy and force spectroscopy • Receptor–ligand interactions
