| Learning Outcomes |
Competences |
| Students acquire a thorough understanding of the scientific principles underlying vector-oriented control methods for AC machines. They are able to develop mathematical models of these systems and derive appropriate control strategies based on those models.
Furthermore, students can analyze, design, and tune field-oriented control schemes for electric drives with respect to efficiency, speed, current, and voltage optimization.
The depth of mathematical modeling and analysis covered in these topics is comparable to that presented in P. Vas, Vector Control of AC Machines, Clarendon Press, 1990.

The combined lecture is an advanced course on field-oriented control (also known as vector control) of AC machines. Following a review of the fundamental concepts—such as space vector theory, coordinate transformations, and torque production—the course examines vector control strategies for permanent magnet synchronous machines, reluctance machines, and induction machines.
The formal models are systematically developed and analyzed, and the advantages as well as limitations of the respective control schemes are discussed and compared.
