Students are able to think and act strategically in complex, practical situations, evaluate business models in a context-specific manner and recognize and take into account the challenges and requirements of strategic implementation and evaluation.

  • LO2: Students have the ability to apply methods and instruments of strategic management in practical scenarios, to make realistic strategic decisions and evaluate them.
  • LO3: Students are able to identify current issues and challenges of strategic management and establish connections between theoretical approaches and practical problems.
  • LO4: Students are able to reflect on and optimize strategic decisions together in a team in order to develop targeted and well-founded solutions.
  • LO5: Students can use various strategic evaluation instruments to understand the success of strategy implementations.
  • LO6: Students are able to explain open and closed strategy processes in theory and apply them in practice.
Learning Outcomes

  • LO1: Students are familiar with the theoretical foundations of strategy implementation and evaluation, as well as open and closed strategy processes.
Criteria for evaluation The course consists of two parts: a lecture section and a workshop section. Assessment is based on several components (take-home exams and written exam).

  • LO1, LO3, LO5, LO6: exam
  • LO2, LO6: critical reflection
  • LO4, LO6: workshops

Feedback culture: Feedback includes ongoing feedback during lectures and workshops, as well as individual feedback when reviewing the exam (voluntary).

Methods The course uses a combination of different teaching methods to

  1. maximize the motivation and attention of the students.
  2. achieve the learning objectives in the didactically best way.
  • Self-directed learning with the help of given literature and materials
  • In workshops and role-playing exercises, students work on strategic issues relating to openness and closure, take on roles, make decisions based on different process logics, and reflect on their impact on collaboration and the quality of results.
  • Self-directed learning and reflection exercises followed by plenary discussions
