Students are able to plan and carry out a doctoral-level research project in educational science or subject didactics in an independent, methodologically sound and appropriate manner, taking into account the current, relevant state of research. They make an original contribution to the further development of knowledge in their respective subject area.

- Students are able to structure and organize their dissertation topic as a long-term research project (k3), including time management, resource planning and efficient organization of the research phases.
- They are able to present the current state of research and, building on this, identify research gaps and innovative research topics/questions (k4, k5, k6).
- Students can integrate different scientific perspectives and disciplines into their research work and recognize relevant overlaps (k4).
- They are able to develop complex educational science and didactic research designs that are tailored to the requirements of their specific research questions (k6). They are familiar with qualitative and/or quantitative research methods (k2), master the methods suitable for their project and can apply these to their research questions (k3).
- Students can appropriately evaluate the significance and limitations of the research results they have obtained (k5).
- They can work effectively in research groups and interdisciplinary teams and provide constructive feedback on the research results of others (k4, k5).
- Students are able to present their research findings clearly and comprehensibly both within the relevant academic community and to a wider audience (k3).

Criteria for evaluation |
The assessment is based on the written and / or oral presentation of the respective status of the dissertation. Details will be announced at the beginning of the course.

Varies depending on the lecturers. Typically, this course focuses on presentation and discussion of individual dissertation projects as well as related theoretical and / or methodological research problems.

Further information |
- After consulting the supervisor, the lecturer may refer to the doctoral student's contributions to the dissertation topic in refereed journals or to the presentation of parts of the dissertation at international scientific conferences for a maximum of two dissertation colloquia.
- The joint holding of a dissertation colloquium for several subjects is permissible, especially if only a few dissertation students are expected in the respective subject areas.
- The assessment of the course is either "successfully completed" or "not successful".
- Public presentation of the expose / proposal as part of the dissertation colloquium in the 1st year of study
