After the course, students can write and speak concisely, use formal and informal registers flexibly and accurately, present succinctly and clearly, and discuss a broader range of topics at the B2 level.
Course Goals
This course aims to equip students with the necessary abilities to participate effectively and efficiently in both professional and academic settings. This is accomplished through a variety of methods that include: listening to a wide array of professional and academic content, reading a variety of professional and academic texts, focusing on summarizing professional and academic texts, revision of grammar, pronunciation work, acquisition of vocabulary, focusing on writing commentaries that utilize professional and academic vocabulary, differentiation and acquisition of vocabulary in both formal and informal settings, evaluation of professional and academic resources, presentation delivery and structure, and spontaneous and prepared discussions.
All of the above-mentioned content is delivered and performed at the B2 level according to the CEFR.

- Reading & Writing - Students are able to read longer professional and academic texts critically, summarize them efficiently, and comment on them in a structured fashion.
- Listening & Speaking - Students can listen for gist and detail and present general topics freely and fluently with more insight and preparation. Additionally, they are able to actively participate in spontaneous or prepared discussions.
- All of the above aim to consolidate and improve the students’ English language skills at B2 level (according to the CEFR criteria)

- Students acquire the expanded, B2-relevant vocabulary required for discussion in the above areas, can explain and write a clear level and can write formally and critically.
- Students recognize the difference between argumentative and informative texts on a variety of topics and can produce both types orally and in writing at the B2 level.

Beurteilungskriterien |
Ongoing assessment consists of the following components:
- 80% attendance
- Written assignments
- Oral presentations
- Written examinations

Lehrmethoden |
Current events, economic, and business-related topics are dealt with individually or in small groups using given (authentic) texts, videos, and other forms of independent research. These topics are discussed with fellow students during class time.
Text structure and vocabulary are covered through the analysis and processing of various readings in authentic, English-language media and selected written contributions by the students and the course instructor.
Students receive feedback on their performance in the following forms:
- Individual oral and written feedback from the course instructor on (partly optional, partly obligatory) written homework assignments
- Individual, verbal peer and lecturer feedback on short presentations on current events, economic, and business-related topics
- Feedback on written contributions prepared in small groups.
- Self-reflection, independent learning, and group work among students
