  • Students will be able to critically reflect on the evolution of employment systems and their implications for welfare policies at both national and European levels.
  • Students will develop the ability to assess and engage with labour market policies in the context of globalization and European integration.

  • (k4) Apply the concept of employment systems as an analytical tool for comparative studies on labour markets and employment policies.
  • (k5) Evaluate national employment systems as social constructions and assess their adaptability to emerging European employment models.
  • (k5) Analyse and compare employment policies across different countries, identifying key drivers of policy convergence and divergence.
  • (k6) Develop well-founded arguments on labour market transformations, integrating perspectives on economic, political, and social developments.
  • Structure, development, and variations of European employment systems.
  • Factors driving disparities, path dependencies, and transformations in national labour markets and employment policies.
  • Pressures for change in national employment systems and the increasing globalisation of employment policies.
Criteria for evaluation Active participation during the on-line course, written assignments.
Methods Introduction during the Intensive Programme at the beginning of the semester, afterwards distance learning methods supported by Moodle. The study unit may also be arranged fully on-line without a face-to-face introduction.
