  • Students will be able to analyse Nordic welfare societies in relation to broader social policy debates.
  • Students will develop the ability to engage in discussions on the Nordic welfare models.
  • Students will be equipped to apply comparative perspectives when evaluating welfare policies and their societal implications.

  • (k4) Compare and contrast the key characteristics of Nordic welfare societies.
  • (k5) Evaluate the principles of universalism, labour market policies, and social security mechanisms within the Nordic model.
  • (k5) Assess differences in child care policies, employment structures, and equality measures across Nordic countries.
  • (k6) Develop arguments on the strengths and challenges of Nordic welfare states and their applicability in broader welfare policy discussions.
  • Different welfare regimes, with a specific focus on the Nordic welfare model.
  • Main features and institutional structures of Nordic welfare societies, with an emphasis on Finland.
  • Position of the Finnish welfare system in comparison to other European welfare models.
Criteria for evaluation Active participation during the Intensive Programme and in the Moodle on-line learning environment, written assignments.
Methods Introduction during the Intensive Programme at the beginning of the semester, afterwards on-line learning methods supported by Moodle.
