Course Goals:
The learning goals for this course in Health Law are designed to introduce students to the fundamental legal frameworks and structures that govern the health care system. The course will provide an in-depth understanding of legal relationships and responsibilities at various levels, from individual interactions to national and international health system governance.
This course covers the legal aspects of health care at multiple levels. At the micro level, it focuses on individual relationships within the health care system, such as the doctor-patient relationship, informed consent, and medical malpractice. The meso level examines decentralized health systems and the regulation of health care institutions like hospitals and public health agencies. At the macro level, the course explores the governance of international, supranational, and national health systems, including the roles of international organizations and relevant legal frameworks. Additionally, the course reviews the legal structures and norms that influence health care systems and discusses the intersections of law, ethics, and politics in shaping public health law and policy.

(*)The assessment strategy for this course is designed to comprehensively evaluate students’ achievement of the learning outcomes (LOs), while promoting active engagement, critical thinking, and the application of legal concepts in real-world scenarios. The assessment methods are aligned with the course’s objectives to ensure that students demonstrate both theoretical understanding and practical skills in health law. The strategy will employ a combination of tasks, seminar presentations, and feedback processes.
The scoring system will be based on a weighted percentage, ensuring that different aspects of the course are assessed fairly. The final grade will reflect students' ability to demonstrate knowledge, critical thinking, research skills, and application of the legal frameworks in health law.
Seminar Presentation (80%): Students will prepare seminar presentation on a topic of their choice within the field of health law, allowing them to explore a specific issue in depth. This presentation will be assessed based on research quality, critical analysis, clarity of argumentation, and relevance to current health law debates. It will demonstrate students' ability to conduct legal research and present well-supported arguments. This method evaluates students' research, presentation and analytical skills.
Group Tasks and Presentations (20%): During the course, students will work in groups to solve practical health law problems or analyse case studies. This assessment method evaluates teamwork, collaboration, and the ability to apply legal concepts to real-world situations.
A strong feedback culture is integral to this course, ensuring that students have continuous opportunities for improvement. Feedback will be provided through multiple channels:
Individual Feedback: Before and after the final presentation, individual feedback will be provided. This feedback will highlight strengths, areas for improvement, and specific recommendations for further study or development. It will be tailored to each student’s work to ensure personalized guidance.
Peer Feedback: During group tasks, students will be required to provide constructive peer feedback on their classmates’ contributions. This process promotes collaborative learning, helps students reflect on their work, and encourages a supportive learning environment.
Ongoing Feedback in Group Work: Regular feedback will also be provided throughout the course on group task progress, allowing students to adjust and improve their work before the final submission or presentation.

Lectures will introduce core concepts, theories, and legal frameworks within health law. The lectures will be interactive, with opportunities for students to ask questions, engage in discussions, and explore complex issues in greater depth.
- Case Studies and Practical Applications
Through the examination of case studies, students will apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations. This method enables students to develop problem-solving skills and think critically about legal issues that arise in health law, including patient rights, medical malpractice, and public health regulations.
Students will participate in small group discussions and collaborative tasks that encourage peer-to-peer learning. These activities will focus on applying legal principles to real-world scenarios, such as analyzing case studies or debating ethical dilemmas in health care. Group work promotes teamwork, enhances problem-solving skills, and encourages diverse perspectives.
