Learning Outcomes
Competences
Students know the current state of research on models and algorithms for decision support in a selected subject area of production, logistics and supply chain management. They can adapt these models and algorithms, implement them using suitable software and interpret the results obtained to provide decision support.
Skills Knowledge
  • Learning Outcome 2 (LO2): Explain the chosen optimization method in detail.
  • Learning Outcome 3 (LO3): Select and apply algorithmic approaches and adapt them to a specific problem independently.
  • Learning Outcome 4 (LO4): Implement the selected approach in a software environment or an appropriate programming language, apply it to suitable data sets and check and interpret the results obtained.
  • Learning Outcome 5 (LO5): Explain existing ideas as well as their own results in a clearly structured, easy to follow and scientifically sound way, both orally and in writing.
  • Learning Outcome 1 (LO1): Recall suitable exact or heuristic optimization methods and strategies for adapting them to a specific problem context
Criteria for evaluation In total, students have the possibility to reach 100 points (project work + presentation).

1. Project work: a topic is developed in small groups, a solution procedure is implemented and results are generated for selected data sets and summarized in a seminar paper.

2. Presentation: the problem, solution method and results are presented.

Synchronization of learning outcomes and assessment:

  • LO1: Project work+presentation
  • LO2: Project work+presentation
  • LO3: Project work+presentation
  • LO4: Project work+presentation
  • LO5: Project work+presentation
Methods The course uses a combination of different teaching methods in order to

1. maximize the motivation and attention of the students.

2. address the learning objectives in the didactically best way.

This includes the following

  • Teacher-centred information inputs, supported by slides and literature.
  • Development of content in collaboration with the students.
  • Development of a topic as part of project work in small groups.
  • Discussion in the group.
