Learning Outcomes
Competences
Students are able to translate a strategic situation into a game in a business context, and to apply standard solution techniques for solving static and dynamic games of (in)complete information

Students are able to intuitively understand the economic reasoning behind the outcomes of a game and are able to follow this reasoning when reading literature related to the course.

Skills Knowledge
  • Apply game-theoretic solution concepts to strategic situations
  • Understand and explain the economic intuition behind equilibrium concepts discussed in the course
  • Recall the basic ideas and assumtions of game-theoretic solution concepts
  • Recall the basic concepts of modelling simple strategic situations in games and apply adequate solution concepts to strategic problems

Course Topics

  • Representation of games
  • Dominance and rationalizability
  • Nash equilibrium
  • Subgame perfekt Nash equilibrium
  • Repeated games
  • Bayesian games
  • Signalling games
Criteria for evaluation In total, students have the possibility to reach 100 points. A minimum of 50 percent at the exam is necessary in order to obtain a positive grade.

Written exam: Individual exam, there is a possibility to repeat it in case of negative results or scheduling issues (retry exam). The exam consists of theoretical as well as practical (solving games) questions. It lasts 90 minutes.

Synchronization of learning outcomes and assessments: All learning outcomes are achieved with the exam plus accompanying IK Game Theory.

Methods
  • Teacher-centred information inputs, supported by slides and literature
  • Development of content in collaboration with the students on the black board.
  • Development of solutions to exercise problems followed by joint discussions with the whole group
