Competences
The students are capable of writing and presenting a scholarly paper in the field of business informatics in English.
Skills Knowledge
  • LO2: Students are able to select, read, and comprehend appropriate source materials, and to cite them correctly. They can understand scholarly and journalistic articles related to their studies and coherently express their opinions on them (K5).
  • LO3: They can write for various purposes, demonstrating accuracy, coherence, flow, and an appropriate, formal style (K3).
  • LO4: Additionally, they are capable of actively participating in, and leading, both spontaneous and prepared discussions in professional and academic contexts (K3).
LO1: Planning, structuring, and writing scholarly texts (particularly the Master's thesis) and presentations in the field of business informatics in English technical language; critically engaging with specialized texts; developing and practicing argumentation; writing abstracts, proposals, and personal profiles (biodata) for publications and conferences.
Criteria for evaluation Ongoing assessment consists of the following components:

  • 80% attendance
  • Active participation
  • Written assignments
  • Presentations
  • Seminar paper
Methods General and subject-related topics are dealt with individually or in small groups using given (authentic) texts, journal articles, videos, and other forms of independent research. These topics are discussed with fellow students during class time.

Text structure and formal as well as technical vocabulary are covered through the analysis and processing of various readings in authentic, English-language media and selected written contributions by the students.

Students receive feedback on their performance in the following forms:

  • Individual oral and written feedback from the course instructor on (partly optional, partly obligatory) written homework assignments
  • Individual, verbal peer and lecturer feedback on short presentations
  • Feedback on written contributions prepared in small groups or individually

Further information The seminar "Advanced Text Production in Business Informatics" is offered in combination with the subject "Selected Aspects of Business Informatics" (="Ausgewählte Aspekte der Wirtschaftsinformatik"), or is to be completed together with the Master's thesis seminar. The techniques learned in the language seminar on selected topics in Business Informatics seminars is practiced and practically applied. The seminar requires students to submit a joint, subject related and language specific final paper and/or Master's thesis as well as a presentation. Grades are awarded on an individual basis and are subject to the discretion of each seminar instructor.
