Skills Knowledge
  • Understand welfare analyses, critically evaluate them, and thoroughly discuss their implications for the design of policy measures
  • Explain the fundamental principles of empirical methods for causal analysis, interpret their results comprehensively, and assess their limitations critically
  • Understand and interpret theoretical models, recognizing their limitations and identify their areas of application
  • Conduct replication studies and critically reflect on their results
  • Prepare and communicate results effectively through a structured and scientifically grounded term paper and/or a presentation
  • Fundamental concepts and theories of public economics and the history of the field.
  • Theoretical foundations of utility and profit maximization as well as the conditions for Pareto-efficient allocations
  • Principles of tax theory, including concepts of tax justice, tax rates, and the Austrian tax system
  • Structure and functioning of the Austrian social insurance systems and concepts related to insurance markets and incentive problems
  • Characteristics and effects of taxes, social insurance, public goods, and externalities on the market economy (including considerations on the optimal design of government interventions)
