Skills Knowledge
  • Understand how appropriate data can be determined and found to causally analyze economic questions
  • Independently develop research designs for causal analysis
  • Understand how research designs can be used to estimate causal effects with appropriate data
  • Random experiments, variables, probability functions, descriptive statistics, expected value and variance, testing
  • Data requirements, data structures, data collection methods, measurement error and missing data
  • Bivariate OLS estimation, multivariate regression models with binary variables, non-linear relationships, logarithmized variables, and interaction terms; endogeneity
  • Potential outcomes framework and randomized control trials
  • Directed acyclical graphs, confounders and colliders
  • Natural experiments, event studies, difference-in-difference designs, instrumental variables, regression discontinuity designs
