Students can write an academic paper in an appropriately formal register, present the chosen research topic professionally.

LO1: Characteristics of scholarly works; planning, structuring, and writing scholarly texts; features of English punctuation; text structuring and introductory sentences; grammatical challenges; coherence in text composition; linking words; presentation techniques; handling sources; comparing and contrasting content.
Criteria for evaluation Ongoing assessment consists of the following components:

  • 80% attendance
  • Active participation
  • Written assignments
  • Presentations
  • Seminar paper
Methods General and particularly subject-related (authentic) texts, journal articles, etc. for the seminar paper and the presentation are researched in detail either individually or in small groups. These articles will also be analyzed and discussed with fellow students during class time and are aimed at consolidating the students’ expert vocabulary as well as their speaking skills. The structure and contents of the seminar paper will be provided by teacher inputs and the reviews and evaluations of already existing papers.

Students receive feedback on their performance in the following forms:

  • Individual oral and written feedback from the course instructor on (partly optional, partly obligatory) written homework assignments
  • Individual, verbal peer and lecturer feedback on the final presentations
  • Feedback on written contributions prepared in small groups or individually
