Competences
Scientific and practice-oriented understanding of the subject area:

  • Students are able to scientifically justify the social effects of the increasing spread of information technology, digitalization and digital transformation on society and derive appropriate action from this.

Assessment of the impact of digitalization on the economy and society:

  • Students are able to recognize, classify and evaluate the diverse "impact topics" of digitalization as such. They are able to differentiate between a scientific approach and a non-scientific description when assessing impacts.

LO2: Students are familiar with scientific approaches to identifying, describing and, if necessary, measuring the social effects of digitalization, for example the various trends in media ecology for researching social media phenomena.
LO3: Students can describe the key mechanisms of the digital economy and explain why traditional management methods are reaching their limits in terms of effectiveness and efficiency in the digital age.
LO4: Students are able to assess and discuss the causes and effects of broken supply chains on everyday life.
LO5: Students can classify the effects on people, society and organization accordingly.
LO6: Students are able to assess the impact and take appropriate action.
The course contents are:

  • The path to digitalization and its significance for the economy and society
  • Social impacts of digitalization using the example of social media
  • Development of media ecology from the beginnings to the social media age
  • Digital Age Management
  • Artificial intelligence: history, use, ethical and legal issues
  • Crypto assets as an economic and social phenomenon
  • Sustainability and ethics in IT
  • Supply Chain Management: economic and socials impacts of broken supply chains

Learning Outcomes

LO1: Characteristics of the digital form of society, fundamentals and trends in media ecology, mechanisms of action and impact of the digital economy, challenges for leadership behavior in the digital age (digital age management), social challenges of artificial intelligence, sustainability and ethics in IT, opportunities and risks of crypto assets
Criteria for evaluation Assessment criteria
The course is assessed 100% on the basis of a written examination (closed book, handwritten).

The use of AI tools in the context of performance assessment (e.g. exams, written assignments and submissions of any kind that are used to assess performance) is not permitted for this course. If AI tools are nevertheless used for performance assessment, this is considered the use of unauthorized aids with the consequences specified in the JKU statutes.
