(*)1. General Language competences
Students are able to understand and produce Italian at a B1.1 level according to the CEFR. They have knowledge of language learning strategies and communication strategies appropriate to this level.

2. Specific language competences
Students are able to understand, summarize and comment the main ideas of basic Italian texts relating to familiar issues of society, business and economics.
They are able to present jobs and the story/development of Italian companies or develop a fact file about them.
They can apply for a job and manage a job interview.
Students can manage simple situations in a company context and organize a company trip with all necessary plans.
They have basic skills of formal phone communication.

Analyze and comment familiar economic/social texts.
Manage a small talk conversation in a business context (e.g. at the restaurant).
Describe and explain the aspects of a good and a bad job and their own expectations.
Analyze recent changes both in the world of work and in recruitments methods.
Compare the school system and the requirements (titles) in Italy with other countries.
Understand the different parts of a CV, write a CV and an application letter and manage a job interview.
Write a fact file about a company and present it.
Manage a phone call in a professional context.
Compare different means of transport for a company trip and make a reservation for it.
Manage a conversation at the railway station / airport.

  5. Organization of company trips
  6. History of Italian companies

Learning Outcomes

  1. Acquisition of the knowledge and skills relating to the world of work: labor market, Italian school system and titles, Italian companies and job application
  2. Basics of written and oral communication in a professional context
  3. Grammar: Future tense and Conditional tense, relative pronouns, phrasal verbs volerci, metterci, occorrere/servire, avere bisogno di, bisogna, use of the Past Tenses passato prossimo and imperfetto, Imperative (Lei), comparatives, stare per-stare + gerundio
Beurteilungskriterien (*)80% class attendance is mandatory. In total, students have the possibility to reach 100 points. A total minimum of 55 points out of 100 is necessary in order to obtain a positive grade.

Students will be assessed on the basis of

  • tests
  • written and oral final exam
  • student portfolio
Lehrmethoden (*)Communicative activities to promote and develop speaking (role plays, discussions, presentations) / reading / listening and writing (summarising – analysing) competences.
The class activities can be in pairs or in groups and are based on a variety of materials (texts, videos, pictures, ads).
Individual tasks are also a relevant part of this learning approach. Economic texts are chosen, read and summarised by the students (individual portfolio which is the part of the final oral exam). Self-study (grammar) could probably be necessary to achieve the learning outcomes.
