Kompetenzen
(*)Upon successful completion of the course, students are able to explain the fundamental principles of smart functional materials and their applications. They can describe the theoretical framework for both material properties and characterization methods. They are able to apply physical concepts from the fields of electrodynamics, thermodynamics and solid-state physics to analyze and predict the behavior of functional materials.

(*)Upon completing the course, students will possess the following skills. They are able to

  • explain important physical concepts for the definition and characterization of smart materials (k2);
  • apply basic knowledge of general physical concepts for the theoretical description of smart materials (k3);
  • evaluate the use of different types of smart materials for specific applications (k5).
(*)During the course, students will acquire theoretical expert knowledge about the physical properties of functional materials for sensor and actuator applications, specifically focusing on:

  • ferroelectric materials;
  • pyroelectric materials;
  • piezoelectric materials;
  • electroactive elastomers;
  • artificial muscles.
Beurteilungskriterien (*)will be annouced at the beginning of the course
Lehrmethoden (*)oral presentation of pre-published slides, in-depth explanations on the blackboard and live demonstrations of experimental methods
