Students are able to

  • Recognize and understand basic concepts of PLC programming and the IEC 61131-3 and IEC 61499 standards (K1).
  • Describe the fundamental programming structures within IEC 61131-3 and IEC 61499, differentiating between functions, function blocks, and other components (K2).
  • Select and apply appropriate programming structures for simple automation tasks (K3).
  • Independently troubleshoot basic PLC programs and modify code to meet specified control requirements (K4).
  • Design and implement small programs for production automation, using structured programming techniques per IEC 61131-3 and IEC 61499 (K5).
  • Understanding of the structure, syntax, and application of IEC 61131-3 and IEC 61499 standards for automation systems.
  • Knowledge of fundamental programming structures and techniques, including functions, function blocks, and sequence controls in PLC programming.
  • Insights into troubleshooting methods, typical automation scenarios, and programming strategies to address control tasks in production settings.
Criteria for evaluation Evaluation based on submitted exercises
Methods The exercise Production Automation Systems serves to deepen the contents of the lecture. Using small, realistic examples, the programming of industrial control systems is practiced. In the exercise units, exercises and solutions are discussed together and example solutions are presented and discussed.
