Learning Outcomes
Competences
Students are able to analyse measurement tasks in industrial environments, select appropriate measurement equipment and data interfaces, and evaluate measurement results. They know and understand the motivation, objectives, principles and strategies of industrial process measurement and can apply these to more complex tasks and generalise the results obtained.
Skills Knowledge
Students are able to

  • analyse and evaluate measurement tasks in an industrial environment in terms of their requirements and constraints (k4, k5),
  • select suitable measuring instruments for given process variables (temperature, pressure, level, flow) and explain their operating principles (k4, k5),
  • explain the functionality of fieldbuses and industrial networks and evaluate their use in process instrumentation (k2, k3),
  • evaluate and interpret process measurement results in terms of their uncertainty and validity (k4, k5)
  • explain optical-spectroscopic process measurement techniques and identify their areas of application (k2, k3),
  • identify and present current developments and trends in process measurement technology (k4, k5).
  • Motivation, objectives, principles and strategies of industrial process measurement technology
  • Functional principles of measuring devices and sensor operating principles for the process variables temperature, pressure, level and flow rate
  • Fundamentals of Process Analytical Technology (PAT), in particular the techniques of optical spectroscopy
  • Operational principles and protocols of fieldbuses and industrial networks
  • Methods of data acquisition, processing and evaluation in process instrumentation
  • Current norms and standards in process instrumentation
Criteria for evaluation Written and/or oral exam
