(*)This lecture introduces the topic bionics with a focus on biomimetic materials, especially polymers. Students learn about the basics and history of bionics. Examples of bionics are demonstrated, focusing on biomimetic material approaches with an emphasis on polymers. Students gain insights into how natural principles can be transferred to synthetic materials to achieve advanced properties.

• know formats and novel applications of biomimetic materials [k1, k2].
• know and understand how to use bionics for designing novel materials and creating new polymer structures and architectures [k1, k2, k3].

(*)• General aspects of bionics: definition, principles of natural construction, materials and their characteristics with examples, structures & architectures, processes.
• Examples: resistance reduction in nature, lotus effect, gecko foot, etc.
• Techniques: Biomedical techniques, biomineralisation, biomimetic strategies.
• Formats of biomimetic materials: nanoparticles and nanofabrication, bionites, templated synthesis of inorganic materials, organoceramic nanocomposites, ceramics.
• Novel applications: tissue engineering, bionic surfaces, polymers and bionics.
