Learning Outcomes
Competences
Students can dimension a radio interface by selecting the appropriate modulation type and the suitable access method. They understand the functionality of high-frequency circuit blocks such as LNA, mixer, oscillator, PLL and power amplifier and can realize the structure at the transistor level. Students can select a suitable architecture for radio transmitters and receivers based on the required specification.
Skills Knowledge
  • Design of a radio interface by selecting suitable modulation, access method, transmission frequency, transmission power, pulse shaping (K3)
  • Circuit design of function blocks such as LNA, mixer, oscillator, PLL, power amplifier (K4)
  • Selection of suitable architecture and specification of radio transmitters and receivers (K4)
  • Modulation types
  • Multiple access methods
  • Pulse shaping, weighing up bandwidth vs. inter-symbol interference
  • Transmit and receive architectures of radio systems
  • Circuit design of LNA, mixer, oscillator, IQ generation, phase locked loop, power amplifier
Criteria for evaluation Written and/or oral exam at the end of the semester.
