Competences
The students are able to understand the most important imaging measurement techniques in science and technology in terms of their physical principles, functionality and technical realisation, to deepen their knowledge independently and to critically evaluate them for different applications.
Skills Knowledge
More specifically, students will be able to,

  • quantitatively explain and analyse the physical principles of imaging measurement techniques (k3/4)
  • describe and evaluate the components of technical imaging equipment and their function (k3/4)
  • describe the mathematical principles of tomographic techniques and illustrate their technical implementation (k4/5),
  • compare different techniques and assess both the technical effort and the measurement quality (k5/6),
  • independently analyse new developments in the field of imaging techniques (k6).
  • Selected mathematical principles of imaging and image processing (e.g. reconstruction methods, image analysis, signal processing)
  • Computed tomography (CT)
  • Basic principles of industrial process tomography (IPT)
  • Physical principles as well as metrological and instrumentation-related aspects of different imaging modalities (ionising and non-ionising radiation)
  • Current trends and possible future developments in technical imaging
