Learning Outcomes
Competences
The students are able to apply and critically evaluate the methods and procedures of product development suitable for processing. You can use product design methods, material selection techniques and simulation tools to develop polymer-based products and processes.
Skills Knowledge
  • To explain product development processes in the field of plastics technology and to understand their significance for industrial practice [k2].
  • Apply methods of product design, material selection and prototyping, both physical and virtual [k3].
  • To use tools for process and component simulation to evaluate the feasibility and optimization of polymer components [k3, k5].
  • To analyze the selection of suitable materials and manufacturing processes and to justify their suitability for specific applications [k4, k5].
  • To develop a concept design for a polymer component that takes both functional and economic aspects into account [k6].
  • Basics of processing-friendly product development in plastics technology
  • Material selection methods
  • Physical and virtual prototyping
  • Tools for process simulation and component behavior simulation
  • Application examples and case studies from industrial practice
Criteria for evaluation written exam
Methods lecture home work: work up a scientific text, practical application of creativity and design tools
