Detailed information
Pre-requisites (*)Positive Beurteilung aus VL Polymerwerkstoffe 1 & KV Einführung in die Chemie der Kunststoffe. Durch die Zulassung zum Masterstudium "Management in Polymer Technologies" bzw. "Polymer Technologies and Science" ist diese Voraussetzung jedenfalls erfüllt.
Original study plan Bachelor's programme Sustainable Polymer Engineering & Circular Economy 2025W
Learning Outcomes
Competences
Students are able to understand the relevance of additives and assign essential additives to the expected material properties.

Skills Knowledge
Students are able to:

Identify additives used along the value chain and derive exemplary property profiles from them [k1, k2].

Select additives according to the required material qualities and critically evaluate them [k5].

Design and assess the required material compositions [k3, k6].

Fundamentals of polymer materials science; basics of polymer additives; achievable property profiles with additives; additives along the value chain; influence of various additives, fillers, and reinforcing materials on polymer properties.
Criteria for evaluation Written exam with a transparent scoring system and grade allocation; an oral exam is possible upon request if the written exam is passed successfully.
Methods Lecture on fundamental aspects with selective collaborative discussions of the course content. Knowledge is reinforced, and competencies are acquired through self-study.

Further information English with a short German recap in the following lecture.

The subject of Plastics Engineering serves as scientific and technical training for plastics engineers and qualifies students for advanced master's programs with a focus on plastics engineering, techno-economic, or chemical-technological fields.

In particular, Plastics Engineering provides both practical and theoretical knowledge in materials science and testing of polymer materials, general and specific polymer characterization, plastics processing, plastics machinery and toolmaking, applied thermal engineering and rheology, as well as the design, dimensioning, and testing of plastic and composite components.
