Further information The elective "Physics of Materials and Materials Science" aims to strengthen and broaden the competences and expertise in the field of material physics in general, and regarding specific topics of materials science in particular. Although the focus is on polymeric materials, it offers a range of courses treating various classes of materials (polymeric materials, metals, ceramics, natural and biological materials). It thus provides an opportunity to learn about similarities and differences of these material classes in terms of their inner structure, the corresponding material property profiles, and their applications. In addition it allows for obtaining a more in-depth knowledge of techniques and methods to characterize and test materials on various size scales.
