More specifically, upon completion of the course they will be able to • understand, explain and review the specific needs and requirements of mineralogy, crystallography and geochemistry. (k2, k3, k4, k5) • understand, explain, and review the basics of geochemistry, crystallography and some major minerals (basic explanations of solid matter, description of crystallographic systems, crystal classes and systems, minerals, synthetic minerals, identification and characterization of minerals and gemstones, …). (k2, k3, k4, k5) Underlying concepts and details of • crystal classes and systems • major minerals (native, oxides, silicates, etc) • synthesis of minerals • identification of minerals with basic tools • identification of minerals and gemstones with advanced spectroscopy
