Competences
The goal of this course is to introduce global strategies of international businesses within manufacturing industries. You get familiar with how corporate strategies are designed, formulated and implemented in global settings. During the strategy design process,complex decision-making takes place,which will be also examined in this course,specifically amongst global trends and business environment(e.g.Sustainability, Industry 4.0, Artificial Intelligence, ...).This course aims to provide a critical approach on different strategic practices and models and proofs its feasibility into operating business
Skills Knowledge
Global Management and Strategy is an integrating module that aims at developing strategic plans in global environments, with special focus on branches within manufacturing industries. The course combines theoretical and practical insights into how companies manage international operations and strategies. Concepts and theory are learned through an integrated blend of lectures,group work and case studies. 1. Knowledge and application of strategy models in multinational corporations (remember,understand,apply, analyze) 2. Analysis of corporate motivations and needs to expand internationally (remember, understand,apply,analyze) 3. Analysis and application of future trends (e.g. AI,Sustainability, Industry 4.0,...) affecting multinational strategies (remember, understand, apply, analyze) 4. Application and analysis of designing and forming international corporate strategies (remember, understand, apply,analyze, create) 5. Knowledge and application on relational interests and conflicts amongst subsidiaries and headquarters (remember, understand)
Criteria for evaluation The assessment of this course is based on the individual and the group level

For a passing grade you need to have gathered points in each requirement and in total at least 60% of the points.

Individual Assignments (20 points each):

Two times during the course,a short test takes place. Each test is based on the preparatory literature of the previous session. The duration is about 15 minutes and will be announced at least 1Session beforehand.

Group assignment: paper and presentation (20 points each):

For your group assignment, you will be allocated into groups. Each group presents and critically analyzes an individual company's global strategy by all models and content learnt in the previous sessions.

Class participation and attendance (20 points):

You are encouraged to actively participate in class discussions and bring in your opinions as well as your expertise related to global strategies and international business operations. For critical discussions and teamwork, it is important to engage in conversations in class. Therefore, it is rewarded with the participation component of your grade. Attendance is the basis for class participation and therefore expected for the entirety of all class sessions. Students who do not attend 80% of the total class time will automatically receive a negative grade. The individual and group assignments cannot be held or compensated by video streaming or hybrid alternatives

• The course will be held in presence. In case that the course needs to be switched to online-mode due to force majeure/ students will be informed timely. Hybrid mode is precluded. • The seminar language is in English. • Attendance is expected for all class sessions. Students who attend less than 80% of the total class time will automatically receive a negative course grade.
