(*)Students will be introduced to the basics of industrial technical-organic chemistry, focused on topics relevant to plastic engineers.
Fertigkeiten Kenntnisse
(*)More specifically, upon completion of the course, they will be able to:

Understand and explain the origin and interconnection of raw materials and their production from lab to plant. (k1, k2, k4)

Understand and be able to apply the basic laws of equilibria, kinetics, and thermodynamics. (k1, k2, k3, k4)

Understand and explain reaction control and separation techniques. (k2, k6)

Understand process development. (k2, k6)

Understand and explain important industrial chemical processes and their related most important polymeric materials. (k2, k4, k6)

(*)Underlying concepts and details of:

• Chemical reaction engineering

• Batch and continuous process control

• Chemical reactors and their reaction/reactor characteristics and parameters

• Physical and chemical fundamentals of enthalpy, chemical equilibrium, phase equilibrium, reaction kinetics, and heat/mass transfer

• Separation techniques: distillation, rectification, absorption, extraction, adsorption, and crystallization

• Oil refinery and raw material conversions: cracking, production of aromatics

• The production of polymers starting from oil, via their intermediates, to the final polymers
