Learning Outcomes
Competences
Give an understanding to the following main topics: Material- and process development of “wood/natural fiber – polymer – composites” (WPC/NFC), properties, applications, ecological aspects
Skills Knowledge
K1, K2] Students know and understand the relationships between the material components of NFC/WPC, their processing, properties and applications and can discuss, explain and interpret these in a solution-oriented manner.

[K3] Students can research NFC/WPC-relevant topics, present them in a structured manner and are familiar with potential applications.

[K4, K5, K6] Students can derive correlations for the respective processing methods and characterize and develop adapted formulations.

Definition of WPC/NFC, standards, history, ecological aspects, development of formulations - selection of components (matrix polymer, natural fibre and additives), processing (extrusion, injection moulding, 3D printing, kneader), properties/characterization, correlations between components, processing and properties; potential and commercial applications; other current research topics relating to these materials
Criteria for evaluation Term paper – presentation
Methods Lecture on the basic aspects, interactive discussions using real materials and products as well as directly on the processing machines, preparation and presentation of a presentation on a sub-area including a short report
