Students are able to understand and independently select methods of component dimensioning specifically for plastic-compatible component design depending on the requirements profile. The basics of material behavior, construction methods, fiber composites (lamina and laminates), joining technology, failure criteria and micromechanics (filled and reinforced plastics) are dealt with thematically. In an exercise unit, students carry out an FEM calculation independently and evaluate the results.

In detail, they are able to
- know essential component design methods [k1]
- identify critical areas of a component according to the requirements and derive measures for improvement. [k5]
- know and evaluate different layer structures of a fiber composite material with their specific ABD matrix and the resulting deformation couplings [k1, k5]
