Detailed information |
Original study plan |
Bachelor's programme Sustainable Polymer Engineering & Circular Economy 2025W |
Learning Outcomes |
Competences |
Students know and understand the objective and the basic methods and approaches of lightweight design. They are familiar with the classical applications and disciplines of lightweight design and are able to design simple structural components in such a way that their weight is as low as possible while fulfilling the requirements for their use.

Skills |
Knowledge |
Students are able to
- justify the use of lightweight design principles in aircraft design, automotive engineering, energy plant design, etc. (k2),
- explain the statics of basic lightweight constructions (k4),
- perform economic feasibility studies and weight analyses (k3),
- analyze and assess the lightweight design potential of metallic materials, polymeric materials and composites (k5),
- explain and compare joining technologies for thin-walled structures (k4),
- analyze and evaluate simple weight-optimized components with regard to their stiffness, stability, strength and damage tolerance (k5).
